Science 9
Exciting October News! (2013)
Who doesn't love space and/or astronauts?! Well, the grade 9s are going to have the amazing opportunity to participate in this:
Blast your class into space!
The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) are offering students the chance to join Commander Chris Hadfield in an exciting and illuminating live conversation this fall. Hadfield will blast into your classroom in real time to talk with your students about his journey to becoming an astronaut, his experiences aboard the International Space Station (ISS), and to answer any mind-boggling outer-space questions! To prepare for this Virtual Classroom experience, log on, with your students, to NFB Space School.
Mr. C has done the test log on and is all set to go on October 16 when the Grade 9s will get to spend their lunch hour listening to one of our great Canadians!
September Update:
We are right in the middle of our unit on Genetics. So far we have covered the following topics:
1) Genetic disorder such as Down Syndrome, Muscular dystrophy, and Hemophilia.
2) Mendel’s theories of inheritance with a focus on dominance and co-dominance.
3) We are beginning environmental impacts on inheritance and how genetic material is found in cells.
Assessments have included discussions, observations and a worksheet on Mendel’s theories.
